Events and Activities

• Ben Armitage, intellectual property attorney, presented with Robert Bain at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on “What Patent Reform Means to University Inventors”.  Both Ben and Mike Haukaas, patent lawyer, participated on a subsequent panel discussion, including private practitioners and a law professor.   Slides from the talk can be found here.
• CBC hosted a free CLE on European Patent Law.  Details can be found here (including access to the slides).
• Tim Clise an expert in intellectual property law,  spoke at the 2011 Midwest IP Institute in Minneapolis regarding Inequitable Conduct.
• Patti Jurkovich, patent attorney, attended the 2011 Minnesota Bioscience Summit in Minneapolis, MN.  The Summit was sponsored by LifeScience Alley and the BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota.

• Ben Armitage attended the Biomass ’11 Conference in Grand Forks, ND.
• Mike Haukaas and Patti Jurkovich attended the AUTM Central Meeting in Louisville, KY.

• Tim Clise and Ben Armitage recently presented to a multi-campus technology transfer office meeting regarding how to obtain the most licensable patents and how to navigate software patenting.
• Ben Armitage and Michael Haukaas are serving in organizational positions for the Chemical, Energy, Environmental and Materials (CEEM) group within LES in 2011.
• Clise, Billion & Cyr is now a member of LifeScience Alley.
• Rich Billion and Tim Clise spoke at the Minnesota Chapter of the Licensing Executive Society (LES) on November 9th.  They discussed the business side of patents and how to identify strengths and weaknesses in evaluating patents in a licensing deal.  The presentation can be downloaded here.
• Michael Haukaas and Ben Armitage attended the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) Western Region Meeting in Los Angeles on October 18-19th.
• Ben Armitage participated in the Electrochemical Society (ECS) national meeting in Las Vegas in October.  He attended lectures and industry luncheons, interacting with leading researchers in such fields as fuel cells, batteries and corrosion chemistry.
• Ben Armitage attended the LES national meeting in Chicago.  Guest speakers included retired Chief Judge for the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Paul Michel and renowned author and economist, Steven Levitt.
• Tim Clise presented US Patent Law to the Korean Patent Attorney Association and conducted a claim drafting course for the Japan Intellectual Property Association in September.
